Don’t get too excited about what that means for the planet.

Apple announced its first-ever carbon-neutral products today.

The company claims that it was able to reduce emissions from materials, electricity, and transportation in production of the watches, in part by getting more of its suppliers to switch to clean energy.

Some of the new watches will be carbon neutral, but only based on “select” combinations of cases and bands.

More important, however, is the company’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.

It intends to stop selling leather accessories like watch bands and phone cases as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Answering critics who question whether a single product is truly sustainable, Apple says it makes efforts to look at the overall green impact of a company rather than focusing on the specific benefits of a particular product.
