Android Malware Found on Google Play Store

This is not the first time subscription malware has been found on the Google Play Store.

Earlier this year, Kaspersky discovered and reported on a new Android app called Fleckpe.

According to the anti-virus firm, this was the most downloaded malware ever on the Play

Storeand it had more than 620,000 downloads in total since 2022.

The malware masquerades as legitimate photo editing apps, camera, and smartphone wallpaper packs.

It works by intercepting notifications and views web pages and acts as a bridge between the native code and the Android components required for purchasing a subscription, according to Kalinin.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first times this has happened.

Back in March, security experts warned about a similar type of malware called TrojanLite.

In both cases, the malware infects phones using a binary file that looks like an app but secretly hides its true purpose under the hood.
