The FTC and more than a dozen state attorneys general have filed an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon, alleging that the e-commerce giant has unlawfully leveraged its market dominance to stifle competition.
The suit targets several different parts of Amazonโs business, including its shopping service, its Ring doorbell service, and its Alexa personal assistant.
The FTC accuses Amazon of punishing sellers who offer lower-priced products on different platforms and restricting the number of sellers that can participate in Prime shipping benefits.
The agency is also accusing Amazon of bias its search results in favor of its own products.
It asks for a permanent injunction prohibiting Amazon from engaging in its unlawful conduct and pry loose Amazon’s monopolistic control to restore competition.
Amazon denies the allegations in the lawsuit and says it will defend itself in court.
