After hearing that Starfield would be exclusive to PlayStation, Microsoft acquired Bethesda.

At the FTC v. Microsoft hearing today, Phil Spencer revealed that Sony regularly pays competitors to skip our platform, and Microsoft felt it needed to own Bethesda to compete.

Microsoft’s Xbox chief has revealed one of the reasons for the acquisition of ZeniMax: potential Starfield PlayStation exclusivity.

During the course of the testimony, Spencer refused to confirm whether Elder Scrolls VI is an Xbox exclusive or not.

The company has so far shipped Redfall with Starfield set for a September 6th debut.

It has been unclear on what platforms the game will be launching on, since the release date is so far unannounced.

Spence also revealed that the deal signed by ZenizMax and Microsoft promised Xbox and PC exclusives.
