Researchers have discovered a new species of mosasaur that lived 72 million years ago in the Pacific Ocean. This mosasaur, named the Wakayama Soryu, had four large flippers and a rudder-like tail that made it a formidable predator. It’s possible that the Wakayama Soryu also had a dorsal fin, like modern great white sharks. The researchers call this creature the Wakayama Soryu, which means blue dragon. In Chinese mythology, dragons make thunder and live in the sky. They became aquatic in Japanese mythology. The Wakayama Soryu isn’t the only sea dragon to have been discovered as of late – check out JΓΆrmungandr and its very angry eyebrows, and the super-sized, fork-tongued mosasaur found in Mexico.
