Scientists at Grasshopper Geography have created a series of beautiful maps that show which ocean each river in the world flows into. And it turns out that there are a lot of rivers that don’t flow into any ocean at all.
For example, the Great Basin in the western United States is an endorheic basin, meaning it’s a region where the river network is completely isolated from the world ocean. And in Central Asia, there’s a giant endorheic basin that encompasses much of the region.
